Mid-stage Pokemon like Magnemite rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Magnezone, which is where the real potential kicks in. Been around since Gen 1. Only weak to Ground.

Magnemite's spread isn't flashy. Sp. Atk leads, HP trails, 1 stats clear the bar. Common in the wild and worth 1 Sp. Atk EV, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

Magnemite Weakness

Ground-type moves hit Magnemite for super-effective damage. Its Electric typing keeps the defensive matchups simple. Only 1 weakness makes it relatively easy to build around defensively.

Gen I Type Chart
  • Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
  • Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)

Best Build

Gen 1 build content has limited support (no abilities, held items, or natures).

Try selecting a different game/generation filter, or check back later.

Without TMs, Magnemite's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get Normal coverage on top of Thunder and Thunderbolt for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

  • Magnemite isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Magneton to unlock its full potential. At 325 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • Watch for Rhydon (Ground) when using Magnemite. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Magnemite evolves into Magneton at level 30. Magnemite is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.

  • Magnemite fills the balanced role. It's a special attacker with base 95 Sp. Atk. Base 45 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's fragile — can't afford to take many hits.

  • Magnemite appears in 21 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.

Magnemite has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 21 titles across all 9 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
