Emerald Terra Cave

A cave that opens only after you've beaten the Champion and a freak drought scorches certain routes. Groudon waits at the very back, the same titan you watched rampage during the story.

Terra Cave is in Hoenn. In the story it comes after Desert Underpass and before Marine Cave.

Terra Cave Guide

  • Once a drought dries out a route, the Weather Institute's forecast points you to which one, and a cave mouth opens there that wasn't before. That's Terra Cave, reachable only after you're Champion. Groudon waits at the end, a Lv. 70 wall of bulk and the toughest thing you'll have fought to that point.

  • Save right in front of the cave, then lead with a Water or Grass type that laughs off its Ground and Fire attacks. Pack a deep stack of Ultra Balls and a move that puts it to sleep, because landing status and shaving its health is the whole fight.

  • Almost never. You can feel your way through the dark stretches, and the cave HM that actually earns a party slot is Rock Smash, not Flash. Flash only matters for a couple of black rooms late in Victory Road, so don't waste an early move slot on it.

  • Yes, more than Flash is. Smashing the cracked rocks in Granite Cave turns up a Nosepass you won't meet any other way, and the ones in Victory Road hide Geodude and Graveler. Keep one party member who knows it so you're not backtracking when a breakable rock shows up.
