Is Flygon Good in Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Playthrough?

Ground/Dragon with AbilityLevitate giving it a Ground immunity on top of the Ground typing. Flygon handles Wattson, Flannery, and Steven's Steel squad without breaking a sweat. 100 in Attack and Speed keep it competitive through the E4. The fan-favorite of Hoenn for good reason.

Flygon Weakness

Type-wise, Flygon takes extra damage from Ice, Dragon, and Fairy. Watch out for Ice attacks, those deal 4x damage. Electric moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. With 80 HP and balanced defenses, Flygon can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.

ORAS Flygon Best Moveset

Ground/Dragon at 100 Attack and 100 Speed with AbilityLevitate granting Ground immunity. The moveset fires dual TermStab at solid power. Earns B-tier but competes directly against Garchomp who outclasses it in every stat. Flygon's niche is MoveU-turn utility that Garchomp lacks.

Pokedex Entry

Flygon is nicknamed “the elemental spirit of the desert.” Because its flapping wings whip up a cloud of sand, this Pokémon is always enveloped in a sandstorm while flying.

Flygon whips up a sandstorm by flapping its wings. The wings create a series of notes that sound like singing. Because the “singing” is the only thing that can be heard in a sandstorm, this Pokémon is said to be the desert spirit.

Flygon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Guide

  • In Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, Don't let Flygon's 520 base stat total fool you. Levitate is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier as a sweeper. Earthquake with Choice Scarf is the standard set.

  • In Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, Flygon's biggest threats include Lapras (Ice), Dragonite (Dragon), and Gardevoir (Fairy), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Lapras is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage.

  • In Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, Run Levitate on Flygon. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. With base 100 Speed, Levitate gives Flygon an edge before opponents can react.

  • In Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, Flygon fills the sweeper role. It's a physical attacker with base 100 Attack. Base 100 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • For Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, the core moveset is Earthquake, Outrage, U Turn, and Dragonclaw. Earthquake leads at 0% usage. Earthquake provides reliable STAB damage.

Game Availability

Flygon first appeared in Ruby & Sapphire and has been available in 15 games across 8 generations. Obtainable through wild encounters in most titles where it appears.
