There's a reason Kyurem has stayed relevant since Gen 5. Dragon/Ice typing and sits at a decent but contested Speed tier — it checks a lot of boxes at once. 5 type weaknesses to keep in mind. Known as the Boundary Pokemon.

Raw Attack carries Kyurem's bulk more than the defenses do. Defense barely registers. But that HP pool covers for it. A near-impossible to catch Boundary Pokemon that yields 3 HP and Attack and Sp. Atk EVs on a slow 1.25M XP grind.

It generates a powerful, freezing energy inside itself, but its body became frozen when the energy leaked out.

Kyurem Weakness

Fragile

Type-wise, Kyurem takes extra damage from Fighting, Rock, Dragon, Steel, and Fairy. Kyurem's overall bulk (125/90/90) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.

Stall teams hate this. Kyurem can spread damage across 10 types, with Rock and Normal punishing common defensive pivots. STAB from Draco Meteor and Outrage keeps the pressure honest on everything else.

No wild encounters for Kyurem in Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire. It's available in Black, Black 2, or Ultra Sun and can be transferred over. The details below show where to find it.

Kyurem is not available as a wild encounter in this game.

Also found in:

  • Kyurem is a Legendary Pokemon rated A-Tier on our tier list. At 660 BST, it hits hard. It excels as a wallbreaker. Base 130 Attack stands out.

  • Kyurem's biggest threats include Hitmonlee (Fighting), Tyranitar (Rock), and Garchomp (Dragon), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Steel and Fairy-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. Kyurem has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.

  • Kyurem doesn't evolve. As a Legendary Pokemon, it stands on its own without an evolutionary line. It's a Dragon/Ice type with 660 BST.

  • Pressure is the go-to ability for Kyurem. It increases the PP cost of moves targetting the Pokémon by one. It's Kyurem's only ability.

  • Base 95 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Kyurem is a mixed attacker — base 130 Attack and 130 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits. Best used as a wallbreaker.

  • Kyurem appears in 8 games, including Black & White, Black 2 & White 2, and X & Y.

First obtainable in Black & White, Kyurem has been featured in 8 titles across 5 generations. Legendary status means a single encounter per playthrough in most games.
