Flygon's Ground/Dragon typing gives it an immunity to Electric. Only 2 weaknesses on top of that — it has plenty of safe switch-in opportunities. Levitate adds more value on top. Flexible enough to run physical or special sets. A competitive option since Gen 3.

Flygon's stats barely vary. 6 sit in respectable range with no real gaps. It's a blank slate for EV investment. Worth 3 Attack and Speed EVs, 1.06M XP medium-slow curve to max.

FLYGON is nicknamed “the elemental spirit of the desert.” Because its flapping wings whip up a cloud of sand, this POKéMON is always enveloped in a sandstorm while flying.

Ruby

FLYGON whips up a sandstorm by flapping its wings. The wings create a series of notes that sound like singing. Because the “singing” is the only thing that can be heard in a sandstorm, this POKéMON is said to be the desert spirit.

Flygon Weakness

Avg

Type-wise, Flygon takes extra damage from Ice and Dragon. Watch out for Ice attacks, those deal 4x damage. Electric moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. With 80 HP and balanced defenses, Flygon can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.

Nothing fancy here. Flygon builds around Leftovers for passive recovery each turn, Impish nature for the right stat lean, and max HP and Defense EVs. Levitate does its job quietly.

The egg pool carries weight here. Focus Energy and Gust aren't available any other way for Flygon, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Earthquake and Dig for solid options.

No wild encounters for Flygon. The 3-stage chain runs through Trapinch, which you can catch at solid rates from the locations below. Evolve at level 45 once you've got the levels.

  3. Flygon
    Step 3Flygon
  • Don't let Flygon's 520 base stat total fool you. Levitate is what makes it tick — it punches way above its weight class. We rate it B-Tier as a sweeper.

  • Flygon's biggest threats include Lapras (Ice) and Dragonite (Dragon), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Lapras is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Vibrava evolves into Flygon at level 45. Flygon is the final evolution in a 3-stage line starting from Trapinch. At 520 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.

  • Run Levitate on Flygon. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. With base 100 Speed, Levitate gives Flygon an edge before opponents can react.

  • Flygon fills the sweeper role. It's a mixed attacker — base 100 Attack and 80 Sp. Atk. Base 100 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • Flygon appears in 15 games, including Ruby & Sapphire, FireRed & LeafGreen, and Emerald.

Flygon first appeared in Ruby & Sapphire and has been available in 15 games across 7 generations. Obtainable through wild encounters in most titles where it appears.
