Stats & Training

The stat bars tell the story: Defense carries everything and Speed's dead weight. But this Hermit Crab Pokemon still yields 2 Defense stat exp per fight on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

Slowbro Weakness

Slowbro is weak to Electric and Grass. On the flip side, it's immune to Ghost-type moves entirely. The Water/Psychic typing picks up 5 resistances to work with. Slowbro's physical bulk (base 110 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Moves

Most of Slowbro's flexibility comes from TMs. Same-type output runs through Psychic and Surf, but Normal and Ice and the rest of the TM pool push it from predictable to genuinely threatening.

Slowbro Guide

  • In Red & Blue, Slowbro works as a trick room with 470 BST behind it. B-Tier on our list: a solid option in Red & Blue for the right team. Amnesia anchors the moveset.

  • Mega Evolution isn't available in Red & Blue, but Slowbro does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Slowbro hits 570 BST.

  • In Red & Blue, Slowbro's biggest threats include Jolteon (Electric) and Exeggutor (Grass), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. At base 30 Speed, Slowbro won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Slowbro is a special attacker with base 80 Special. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 30 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the trick room role.

  • For Red & Blue, the core moveset is Amnesia, Rest, Surf, and Thunder Wave. Amnesia leads at 25% usage. Surf provides reliable STAB damage.

Game Availability

Available since Red & Blue, Slowbro appears in 21 games spanning 10 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Mega form in Generation 7 and a Galarian form in Generation 8.
