Stats & Training
The stat bars tell the story: Special carries everything and Defense's dead weight. But this Psi Pokemon still yields 3 Special stat exp per fight on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
Its brain can outperform a supercomputer. Its intelligence quotient is said to be 5,000.

Alakazam Weakness
Alakazam has no type weaknesses thanks to its unique defensive typing. The upside? Ghost-type moves can't touch it at all.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fighting, Psychic |
| 0x (Immune) | Ghost |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split

The level-up pool is slim, so TMs matter here. Alakazam's Normal and Fighting coverage all comes from technical machines, built on top of Psychic and Psybeam for same-type damage. Psychic and Double-Edge are the payoff moves.

Alakazam Guide
In Red & Blue, Alakazam works as a sweeper with 540 BST behind it. S-Tier on our list: one of the best picks in the Red & Blue meta. Psychic anchors the moveset.
Mega Evolution isn't available in Red & Blue, but Alakazam does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Alakazam hits 640 BST.
Alakazam has no type weaknesses, making it hard to counter through typing alone. Focus on status moves, entry hazards, or raw neutral damage to take it down.
Alakazam is a special attacker with base 135 Special. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 120 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. Fits the sweeper role.
For Red & Blue, Alakazam has answers, but so do you. Priority moves (Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, Ice Shard) bypass its speed. Bulky walls that resist its STAB also shut it down.
Game Availability
Available since Red & Blue, Alakazam appears in 21 games spanning 10 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Mega form in Generation 7.
