Stats & Training
The stat bars tell the story: Sp. Atk carries everything and Defense's dead weight. But this Psi Pokemon still yields 3 Sp. Atk EVs per fight on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
The longer Alakazam lives, the larger and heavier its head becomes. Our tests have shown that the strength of its psychic powers correlates positively to the weight of its head.
Alakazam Weakness
Bug, Ghost, and Dark moves hit Alakazam for super-effective damage. Alakazam's special bulk (base 95 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

Legends: Z-A Evolution
Alakazam evolved from Abra's chain using a trade. It's a non-standard trigger, so check the details below. Breed this form to get Abra eggs (average hatch time). The evolution from Abra pushed Alakazam to 500 total stats. Sp.Def saw the largest single gain at +40. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Legends: Z-A Alakazam Best Moveset
Alakazam leads with Focus Sash insurance. Even if it can't take a hit naturally, it'll survive long enough to deal early damage. Max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs go all-in on offense since bulk doesn't matter here.

Moves
The level-up pool is slim, so TMs matter here. Alakazam's coverage across 9 types all comes from technical machines, built on top of Future Sight and Dream Eater for same-type damage. Psychic and Future Sight are the payoff moves.

How to Get Alakazam in Legends: Z-A
No wild encounters for Alakazam in Legends: Z-A. Bring Abra over from Red, Yellow, or FireRed, then level through the stages. Each step in the chain is laid out below.
Alakazam Guide
In Legends: Z-A, Alakazam looks average on paper at 500 BST. But Magic Guard is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. B-Tier sweeper on our tier list. Psychic with Focus Sash is the standard set.
Mega Evolution isn't available in Legends: Z-A, but Alakazam does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Alakazam hits 600 BST.
Alakazam gets Magic Guard, Synchronize, and Inner Focus. But Magic Guard is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that. With base 120 Speed, Magic Guard gives Alakazam an edge before opponents can react.
Alakazam is a special attacker with base 135 Sp. Atk. Speed tells the real story. Base 120 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. Fits the sweeper role.
Game Availability
Available since Red & Blue, Alakazam appears in 21 games spanning 10 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Mega form in Generation 7.
