Mid-stage Pokemon like Abra rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Alakazam, which is where the real potential kicks in. Ghost moves can't touch it, and only 0 types hit it super-effectively. Known as the Psi Pokemon.
Abra's all-in on Sp. Atk at the expense of Defense. The special lean is obvious from the bars. Yields 1 Sp. Atk EV and follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
Using its ability to read minds, it will identify impending danger and TELEPORT to safety.
Abra Weakness
ExcellentAbra has no type weaknesses thanks to its unique defensive typing. It shrugs off Ghost-type attacks completely.
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split
A Psychic type with 310 stats, Abra has a chain leading to Alakazam. Breeding won't work. The evolved forms gain up to 190 total stats over Abra.
How to Evolve
Best Build
Gen 1 build content has limited support (no abilities, held items, or natures).
Try selecting a different game/generation filter, or check back later.
Without TMs, Abra's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get Normal and Fighting coverage on top of Psychic and Psywave for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

Best Locations
walking and gift encounters for Abra across 6 spots at Lv. 6-12. The catch is that Blue and Red don't share every location, so compare what's available in your version.
Abra isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Kadabra to unlock its full potential. At 310 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
Abra has no type weaknesses, making it hard to counter through typing alone. Focus on status moves, entry hazards, or raw neutral damage to take it down.
Abra evolves into Kadabra at level 16. Abra is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.
Abra fills the attacker role. It's a special attacker with base 105 Sp. Atk. Base 90 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. And it's fragile — can't afford to take many hits.
Abra appears in 21 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.
Abra has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 21 titles across all 9 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
