Kadabra sits in the middle of its evolution line — stronger than Abra but not yet at full power. Most trainers push through to Alakazam as fast as possible. Known as the Psi Pokemon. Its damage comes from the special side.

Sp. Atk leads and Defense gets almost nothing. That's Kadabra's stat line in a nutshell. 2 stats sit in respectable range, but the spread is brutal. Moderately hard to find and yields 2 Sp. Atk EVs.

It emits special alpha waves from its body that induce headaches just by being close by.

Kadabra Weakness

Excellent

Kadabra has no type weaknesses thanks to its unique defensive typing. On the flip side, it's immune to Ghost-type moves entirely.

Gen I Type Chart
  • Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
  • Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
  • Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split

Best Build

Gen 1 build content has limited support (no abilities, held items, or natures).

Try selecting a different game/generation filter, or check back later.

TMs carry this one. Kadabra learns Psychic and Psybeam naturally for STAB, but the offensive range comes almost entirely from technical machines. Normal and Fighting and beyond give it real matchup play.

or evolve from Abra (Step 1)
  • Kadabra is meant to evolve into Alakazam. At 400 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.

  • Kadabra has no type weaknesses, making it hard to counter through typing alone. Focus on status moves, entry hazards, or raw neutral damage to take it down.

  • Abra evolves into Kadabra at level 16. Kadabra evolves into Alakazam by trading. Kadabra is a middle-stage evolution in the Abra line.

  • Base 105 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. On offense, Kadabra is a special attacker with base 120 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits. Best used as a sweeper.

  • Kadabra appears in 21 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.

One of the original 151, Kadabra has appeared in 21 games — nearly every mainline game. From Red & Blue through the latest titles, it's rarely been left out of a regional Pokedex.
