Aggron Best Moveset
Mega Aggron drops Rock type entirely, becoming pure Steel at 230 Defense with AbilityFilter reducing super-effective damage by 25%. Held ItemAggronite and 140 Attack give the moveset real physical offense behind the highest non-legendary Defense stat available. Steel TermStab fires on 50 Speed cooldowns.
Rock/Steel had terrible defensive typing in Gen III (Ruby & Sapphire). 4x weak to Fighting and Ground. 180 Defense was amazing but those weaknesses negated it.

Rock Head plus Head Smash was a monstrous combo in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl). 150-power Rock STAB with no recoil from 110 Attack. Raw destruction.

Same Head Smash formula in Gen V (Black & White). 4x weaknesses limited when Aggron could switch in safely, but when it attacked, few things survived.
Physical Wallbreaker Moveset
- Head Smash
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch

Mega Aggron became pure Steel with Filter in Gen VI (X & Y), removing the 4x weaknesses entirely. Base Aggron was irrelevant without the Mega Stone.
Physical Tank Moveset
- Metal Burst
- Iron Head
- Head Smash
- Fire Punch

Mega Aggron was decent but base form dropped in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). Rock/Steel's defensive weaknesses were unforgivable without the Mega's retyping.
Physical Sweeper Moveset
- Fire Punch
- Earthquake
- Endeavor
- Counter

No Mega form in Gen VIII (Sword & Shield). 180 Defense couldn't compensate for 4x weakness to the two most common offensive types in the format.

- Metal Burst
- Stealth Rock
- Reversal
- Head Smash

Aggron Weakness
Type-wise, Aggron takes extra damage from Fighting, Ground, and Water. Watch out for Fighting and Ground attacks, those deal 4x damage. Poison moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. 8 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. Aggron's physical bulk (base 180 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Fighting, Ground |
| 2x (Weak) | Water |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Ice, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Dragon, Fairy |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Normal, Flying |
| 0x (Immune) | Poison |

Base Stats
Aggron's all-in on Defense at the expense of Speed. The physical lean is obvious from the bars. Yields 3 Defense EVs and follows a slow 1.25M XP grind.
Aggron has a horn sharp enough to perforate thick iron sheets. It brings down its opponents by ramming into them horn first.
Aggron Guide
Aggron has a 530 base stat total and ranks as B-Tier: a solid choice for the right team. It works best as a balanced. Base 180 Defense is where it shines.
Yes. Mega Aggron hits 630 BST, a solid jump from the base 530. Hold the Mega Stone, trigger it in battle, and it lasts the whole fight. One Mega per team.
Aggron's biggest threats include Machamp (Fighting), Golem (Ground), and Swampert (Water), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Machamp is the most dangerous since Fighting moves deal 4x damage. Aggron has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.
Sturdy is the go-to ability for Aggron. It prevents being KOed from full HP, leaving 1 HP instead. Its hidden ability Heavy Metal can work in specific setups. Rock Head is the other option. Pick based on what your team needs.
Aggron fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 110 Attack. Base 50 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's tanky enough to absorb a few hits.
