Aggron's Steel/Rock typing gives it an immunity to Poison. Only 3 weaknesses on top of that — it has plenty of safe switch-in opportunities. A competitive option since Gen 3. It relies on good prediction to keep up.
Aggron's all-in on Defense at the expense of Speed. The physical lean is obvious from the bars. Yields 3 Defense EVs and follows a slow 1.25M XP grind.
AGGRON claims an entire mountain as its own territory. It mercilessly beats up anything that violates its environment. This POKéMON vigilantly patrols its territory at all times.
AGGRON is surprisingly protective of its environment. If its mountain is ravaged by a landslide or a fire, this POKéMON will haul topsoil to the area, plant trees, and beautifully restore its own territory.
Aggron Weakness
GoodType-wise, Aggron takes extra damage from Fighting, Ground, and Water. Watch out for Fighting and Ground attacks, those deal 4x damage. Poison moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. 9 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. Aggron's physical bulk (base 180 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
Aggron is the final form in a three-stage chain from Aron through Lairon. Breeding this form produces Aron eggs (slow to hatch). Evolving from Aron gave Aggron the biggest boost in Defense (+80), bringing the total to 530 stats.
How to Evolve
Breed with Aggron to get Aron eggs using 49 partners from the Monster egg group. Notable egg moves include Body Slam, Endeavor, Smelling Salts and 1 more.
This build takes hits and hits back. Leftovers provides passive recovery each turn, Sturdy supports the gameplan, and max HP and Attack EVs mean Aggron doesn't crumble to chip damage. Plus utility options backing it up.

Hard to wall, honestly. Aggron threatens 10 types beyond its own STAB, with Normal and Ground standing out. Pair that with Iron Tail and Rock Tomb and switchins need to think twice.

Step 3Aggron ✓
Aggron has a 530 base stat total and ranks as C-Tier — a situational pick that fills a niche. It works best as a balanced. Base 180 Defense is where it shines.
Aggron's biggest threats include Machamp (Fighting), Golem (Ground), and Swampert (Water), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Machamp is the most dangerous since Fighting moves deal 4x damage. Aggron has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.
Sturdy is the go-to ability for Aggron. It prevents being KOed from full HP, leaving 1 HP instead. Its hidden ability Heavy Metal can work in specific setups. Rock Head is the other option — pick based on what your team needs.
Aggron fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 110 Attack. Base 50 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's tanky enough to absorb a few hits.
Aggron appears in 15 games, including Ruby & Sapphire, FireRed & LeafGreen, and Emerald.
Aggron first appeared in Ruby & Sapphire and has been available in 15 games across 7 generations. Obtainable through wild encounters in most titles where it appears.
