Umbreon Weakness

Fighting, Bug, and Fairy moves hit Umbreon for super-effective damage. The upside? Psychic-type moves can't touch it at all. Umbreon's overall bulk (95/110/130) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.

Umbreon's built to absorb hits, not race for knockouts. Special bulk with Sp. Def doing the heavy lifting. And the medium-fast 1M XP curve means it won't take forever to bring up, worth 2 Sp. Def EVs.

Umbreon Guide

  • Umbreon works as a wall with 525 BST behind it. B-Tier on our list: a solid choice for the right team. That 130 base Sp. Def does the heavy lifting.

  • Watch for Hitmonlee (Fighting), Heracross (Bug), and Gardevoir (Fairy) when using Umbreon. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Umbreon has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.

  • Synchronize copies burns, paralysis, and poison received onto the Pokémon that inflicted them. That's the one you want on Umbreon. Inner Focus is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • Umbreon is a physical attacker with base 65 Attack. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. At base 65 Speed, it won't be moving first often. Fits the wall role.

  • Run Foulplay, Wish, Protect, and Toxic on Umbreon. Foulplay is the most common pick at 0% usage. This set covers the wall role with a mix of damage and utility.

Game Availability

Debuting in Gold & Silver, Umbreon appears in 19 games across 9 generations. A reliable presence in most mainline games, typically found through wild encounters.
