It lives in tropical jungles. The bunch of fruit around its neck is delicious. The fruit grows twice a year.

Tropius Weakness

Ice, Fire, Poison, Flying, and Rock moves hit Tropius for super-effective damage. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Ground-type moves can't touch it at all.

Sun & Moon Tropius Best Moveset

Tropius leads with Focus Sash insurance. Even if it can't take a hit naturally, it'll survive long enough to deal early damage. Max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs go all-in on offense since bulk doesn't matter here.

Tropius Guide

  • In Sun & Moon, Don't let Tropius's 460 base stat total fool you. Chlorophyll is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier. Aircutter with Focus Sash is the standard set.

  • In Sun & Moon, watch for Lapras (Ice), Charizard (Fire), and Nidoking (Poison) when using Tropius. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Lapras is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Flying and Rock-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • In Sun & Moon, Run Chlorophyll on Tropius. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Tropius also gets Solar Power and Harvest, but they don't compare.

  • In Sun & Moon, Tropius fills the balanced role. It's leaning toward the special side (base 72 Sp. Atk). At base 51 Speed, it won't be moving first often. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • In Sun & Moon, run Aircutter, Dragon Pulse, Giga Drain, and Protect on Tropius. Aircutter is the most common pick at 25% usage. This set covers the balanced role with a mix of damage and utility.

Game Availability

Tropius first appeared in Ruby & Sapphire and has been available in 15 games across 8 generations. Obtainable through wild encounters in most titles where it appears.
