Stats & Training
Tropius's spread favors balanced defenses over offense. HP leads the defensive side, Speed eats the cost. Yields 2 HP EVs per defeat. Slow 1.25M XP grind to level.
It flies by flapping its broad leaves and gives the sweet, delicious fruit around its neck to children.
The bunch of fruit around its neck ripens twice a year and is delicious. It’s a highly favored tropical snack.
Tropius Weakness
Ice, Fire, Poison, Flying, and Rock moves hit Tropius for super-effective damage. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Ground-type moves can't touch it at all.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Ice |
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Poison, Flying, Rock |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Water, Fighting |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass |
| 0x (Immune) | Ground |
In X & Y, Weavile can KO Tropius with Ice Shard (106-124%). Zapdos deals 50-59% with Heat Wave.

How to Get Tropius in X & Y
Tropius doesn't appear in X & Y. Transfer it from Ruby, Emerald, or Scarlet to add it to your collection. Check the source games below for encounter details.
Tropius Guide
In X & Y, Don't let Tropius's 460 base stat total fool you. Chlorophyll is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier. Dragon Dance with Liechiberry is the standard set.
In X & Y, watch for Lapras (Ice), Charizard (Fire), and Nidoking (Poison) when using Tropius. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Lapras is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Flying and Rock-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.
In X & Y, Run Chlorophyll on Tropius. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Tropius also gets Solar Power and Harvest, but they don't compare.
In X & Y, Tropius fills the balanced role. It's a special attacker with base 72 Sp. Atk. At base 51 Speed, it won't be moving first often. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
In X & Y, run Dragon Dance, Fly, Leafblade, and Substitute on Tropius. Dragon Dance is the most common pick at 13% usage. Fly provides reliable STAB damage.
