Psychic is a dangerous matchup for Toxicroak — quadruple damage means one hit can end things. On the flip side, it resists 6 types, so the defensive profile isn't all bad. Dry Skin helps compensate. Known as the Toxic Mouth Pokemon.

The stat budget goes to damage. Attack and Sp. Atk carry the offense, Defense doesn't even come close. A Toxic Mouth Pokemon on a medium-fast 1M XP curve, worth 2 Attack EVs per KO.

Toxicroak Weakness

Avg

Type-wise, Toxicroak takes extra damage from Psychic, Ground, and Flying. Watch out for Psychic attacks, those deal 4x damage. With 6 resistances, the defensive profile is strong. Dry Skin grants an additional Water immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Toxicroak leans offensive (base 106 Atk) rather than trying to tank its weaknesses.

Toxicroak doesn't appear wild. Catch Croagunk instead, it shows up at solid rates. Evolve it at level 37 to get Toxicroak. The 2-stage line is mapped in the step cards below.

How to Obtain Toxicroak in X & Y

The path to Toxicroak starts with Croagunk at Lv. 12-14 via walking encounters. 1 catchable stage total, with locations listed for each one below.

  2. Toxicroak
    Step 2Toxicroak
  • Dry Skin changes the entire equation for Toxicroak. The 490 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as an attacker.

  • Toxicroak's biggest threats include Espeon (Psychic), Swampert (Ground), and Staraptor (Flying), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Espeon is the most dangerous since Psychic moves deal 4x damage.

  • Croagunk evolves into Toxicroak at level 37. Toxicroak is the fully evolved form. At 490 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.

  • Dry Skin is what you want on Toxicroak. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Anticipation, Poison Touch) work on paper but Dry Skin is what makes Toxicroak worth using.

  • Base 85 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Toxicroak is a physical attacker with base 106 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as an attacker.

  • Toxicroak appears in 13 games, including Platinum, HeartGold & SoulSilver, and Diamond & Pearl.

Available in 13 titles since its debut in Diamond & Pearl, Toxicroak spans 6 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through wild encounters in a solid number of games.
