Without Chlorophyll, Tropius wouldn't see any competitive play. With it? It doubles its Speed in sun, turning modest base stats into a real offensive threat. Grass/Flying is solid coverage on top of that. Ground moves can't touch it, which offsets the 5 weaknesses somewhat.
Tropius's spread favors balanced defenses over offense. HP leads the defensive side, Speed eats the cost. Yields 2 HP EVs per defeat. Slow 1.25M XP grind to level.
The bunches of fruit around TROPIUS’s neck are very popular with children. This POKéMON loves fruit, and eats it continuously. Apparently, its love for fruit resulted in its own outgrowth of fruit.
Children of the southern tropics eat as snacks the fruit that grows in bunches around the neck of TROPIUS. This POKéMON flies by flapping the leaves on its back as if they were wings.
Tropius Weakness
VulnerableIce, Fire, Poison, Flying, and Rock-type moves hit Tropius for super-effective damage. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Ground-type moves can't touch it at all.
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
Tropius is what you get. No evolutions, but it breeds through two egg groups with a decent partner pool. Hatching is average hatch time. It's got 5 egg moves worth looking into.
How to Evolve
Breed Tropius easily with 35 breeding partners from the Plant and Monster egg groups. Pass egg moves like Headbutt, Leech Seed, Nature Power and 2 more to offspring.
max HP and Sp. Def EVs and Calm nature turn Tropius into a wall that doesn't fold easily. Leftovers brings passive recovery each turn for the long game, and the moveset handles sustain. Chlorophyll fills in the gaps.

Without breeding, Tropius misses out on Headbutt and Leech Seed. That's 5 egg moves adding depth that the base kit lacks. STAB comes from Solar Beam and Fly, with Normal and Ground coverage and more rounding things out.

Tropius sits at moderate rates across 2 spots in mid-game routes. Pick one from the sorted list and commit to it. Jumping between areas wastes more time than waiting in the right location.
Best Locations
Don't let Tropius's 460 base stat total fool you. Chlorophyll is what makes it tick — it punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier.
Watch for Lapras (Ice), Charizard (Fire), and Nidoking (Poison) when using Tropius. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Lapras is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Flying and Rock-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.
Tropius doesn't evolve and has no evolutionary line. It's a Grass/Flying-type Pokemon with a 460 base stat total.
Run Chlorophyll on Tropius. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Tropius also gets Solar Power and Harvest, but they don't compare.
Tropius fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 68 Attack. At base 51 Speed, it won't be moving first often. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
