Without Chlorophyll, Tropius wouldn't see any competitive play. With it? It doubles its Speed in sun, turning modest base stats into a real offensive threat. Grass/Flying is solid coverage on top of that. Ground moves can't touch it, which offsets the 5 weaknesses somewhat.
Tropius's spread favors balanced defenses over offense. HP leads the defensive side, Speed eats the cost. Yields 2 HP EVs per defeat. Slow 1.25M XP grind to level.
It flies by flapping its broad leaves and gives the sweet, delicious fruit around its neck to children.
Tropius Weakness
VulnerableIce, Fire, Poison, Flying, and Rock-type moves hit Tropius for super-effective damage. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Ground-type moves can't touch it at all.
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)
Tropius is what you get. No evolutions, but it breeds through two egg groups with no compatible partners. Hatching is average hatch time. It's got 12 egg moves worth looking into.
How to Evolve
Breed Tropius easily from the Plant and Monster egg groups. Pass egg moves like Bullet Seed, Curse, Dragon Dance and 9 more to offspring.
Defense and Sp. Def investment EVs and Impish nature turn Tropius into a wall that doesn't fold easily. Sitrus Berry brings a one-time health recovery at low HP for the long game, and the moveset handles sustain. Harvest fills in the gaps.

Without breeding, Tropius misses out on Bullet Seed and Curse. That's 12 egg moves adding depth that the base kit lacks. STAB comes from Leaf Storm and Solar Beam, with coverage across 7 types rounding things out.

decent spawn rates for Tropius across 4 locations in endgame routes. Nothing complicated. Check the sorted list below, compare the top few options, and head to whichever is closest.
Best Locations
Which version you're playing matters for Tropius. 4 walking spots at Lv. 58-66 spread across Black 2 and White 2, and some routes only appear in one cartridge. Check the version badges below.
Don't let Tropius's 460 base stat total fool you. Chlorophyll is what makes it tick — it punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier.
Watch for Lapras (Ice), Charizard (Fire), and Nidoking (Poison) when using Tropius. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Lapras is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Flying and Rock-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.
Tropius doesn't evolve and has no evolutionary line. It's a Grass/Flying-type Pokemon with a 460 base stat total.
Run Chlorophyll on Tropius. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Tropius also gets Solar Power and Harvest, but they don't compare.
Tropius fills the balanced role. It's leaning toward the special side (base 72 Sp. Atk). At base 51 Speed, it won't be moving first often. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
