Without Chlorophyll, Tropius wouldn't see any competitive play. With it? It doubles its Speed in sun, turning modest base stats into a real offensive threat. Grass/Flying is solid coverage on top of that. Ground moves can't touch it, which offsets the 5 weaknesses somewhat.
Tropius's spread favors balanced defenses over offense. HP leads the defensive side, Speed eats the cost. Yields 2 HP EVs per defeat. Slow 1.25M XP grind to level.
Because it continually ate only its favorite fruit, the fruit started growing around its neck.
Tropius Weakness
VulnerableIce, Fire, Poison, Flying, and Rock-type moves hit Tropius for super-effective damage. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Ground-type moves can't touch it at all.

How to Evolve
Breed Tropius easily from the Plant and Monster egg groups. Pass egg moves like Curse, Dragon Dance, Dragon Hammer and 7 more to offspring.
Tropius runs Growth to boost before sweeping. Harvest and Modest nature shape the build, with HP-heavy investment EVs to capitalize after one turn of setup, plus utility options to back it up.

Don't let Tropius's 460 base stat total fool you. Chlorophyll is what makes it tick — it punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier.
Watch for Lapras (Ice), Charizard (Fire), and Nidoking (Poison) when using Tropius. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Lapras is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Flying and Rock-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

Run Chlorophyll on Tropius. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Tropius also gets Solar Power and Harvest, but they don't compare.
