Regenerator recovers a third of its HP every time it switches out, adding real value on top of Toxapex's already solid stats. Poison/Water typing means only weak to Electric, Ground, and Psychic. Known as the Brutal Star Pokemon.

Defense leads and Speed gets almost nothing. That's Toxapex's stat line in a nutshell. 2 stats sit in respectable range, but the spread is brutal. Moderately hard to find and yields 2 Defense EVs.

Toxapex's job is getting Toxic Spikes up and staying on the field. Black Sludge provides Poison-type passive recovery, Regenerator helps it stick around, and max HP and Defense EVs prioritize longevity. Recover keeps it healthy between hits.

Recommended Teammates

Egg moves make a real difference. Toxapex gets Haze and Spit Up exclusively through breeding, filling gaps that TMs and level-up can't touch. Dark and Flying coverage and more rounds out the picture alongside Sludge Wave and Sludge Bomb.

You're catching Mareanie first, not Toxapex. Mareanie appears at moderate rates in the encounters below. The step cards map the full 2-stage line with evolution methods between each stage.

How to Obtain Toxapex in Sun & Moon

The path to Toxapex starts with Mareanie at Lv. 10-23 via fishing encounters. 1 catchable stage total, with locations listed for each one below.

  2. Toxapex
    Step 2Toxapex
  • Regenerator changes the entire equation for Toxapex. The 495 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked A-Tier.

  • Toxapex's biggest threats include Jolteon (Electric), Landorus (Ground), and Alakazam (Psychic), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. At base 35 Speed, Toxapex won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Mareanie evolves into Toxapex at level 38. Toxapex is the fully evolved form. At 495 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.

  • Regenerator is what you want on Toxapex. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Merciless, Limber) work on paper but Regenerator is what makes Toxapex worth using.

  • Base 35 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Toxapex is a special attacker with base 53 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits.

  • Toxapex can be found in Scarlet & Violet, Sword & Shield, Sun & Moon, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Toxapex joined the series in Sun & Moon and has been available in 4 titles so far. With 3 generations of appearances, it's established itself despite the later start.
