Moves

Egg moves make a real difference. Sealeo gets Curse and Fissure exclusively through breeding, filling gaps that TMs and level-up can't touch. Normal and Ground coverage and more rounds out the picture alongside Blizzard and Ice Beam.

How to Get Sealeo in FireRed & LeafGreen

Sealeo isn't available in the wild in FireRed & LeafGreen. Start by transferring Spheal from Ruby, Emerald, or Omega Ruby. The evolution path from Spheal to Sealeo is covered in the steps below.

How to Obtain Sealeo in FireRed & LeafGreen

  1. Spheal
    Step 1Obtain Spheal

    Catch in the wild in:

Then trade to FireRed & LeafGreen to continue the evolution chain.

Sealeo Guide

  • Sealeo is meant to evolve into Walrein. At 410 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.

  • In FireRed & LeafGreen, Sealeo's biggest threats include Raikou (Electric), Breloom (Grass), and Machamp (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Rock-type attackers are also a problem.

  • In FireRed & LeafGreen, Spheal evolves into Sealeo at level 32. Sealeo evolves into Walrein at level 44. Sealeo is a middle-stage evolution in the Spheal line.

  • Thick Fat is what you want on Sealeo. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Ice Body, Oblivious) work on paper but Thick Fat is what makes Sealeo worth using.

  • Base 45 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Sealeo is a special attacker with base 75 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two.

Game Availability

Available in 15 titles since its debut in Ruby & Sapphire, Sealeo spans 8 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through catching or hatching as a base form in most mainline games.
