Sealeo sits in the middle of its evolution line — stronger than Spheal but not yet at full power. Most trainers push through to Walrein as fast as possible. Known as the Ball Roll Pokemon. Flexible enough to run physical or special sets.

Bulk defines Sealeo's stat line. HP and Sp. Atk anchor the defensive side, but Speed can't keep up offensively. Common in the wild and worth 2 HP EVs.

Sealeo live on top of drift ice. They go swimming when they’re on the hunt, seeking out their prey by scent.

Sword

This Pokémon has a habit of spinning round things on its nose, whether those things are Poké Balls or Spheal.

Sealeo Weakness

Vulnerable

Sealeo is weak to Electric, Grass, Fighting, and Rock-type moves. Thick Fat reduces Fire/Ice damage, further improving the defensive spread.

Partway through Spheal's chain. Sealeo still has another evolution ahead before reaching Walrein. For breeding, average hatch time with a massive partner pool via two egg groups. HP has grown the most so far (+20), but there's still another 120 stats to gain in the final evolution.

Sealeo hasn't fully evolved, but Eviolite's 50% bulk boost makes it viable anyway. Relaxed nature with Defense and Sp. Def investment EVs shapes the defensive spread, and Thickfat adds utility.

Leveling does the heavy lifting. Sealeo picks up Surf and Blizzard along the way, building toward a complete offensive set. TMs add Rock and Normal coverage and more, but the foundation's already strong by then.

Can't catch Sealeo directly. Start with Spheal at solid rates from the locations below, then evolve at level 32. The 2-stage line from Spheal to Sealeo is where the leveling time goes.

How to Obtain Sealeo in Sword & Shield

The path to Sealeo starts with Spheal at Lv. 60-65 via walking encounters. 1 catchable stage total, with locations listed for each one below.

  2. Sealeo
    Step 2Sealeo
  • Sealeo is meant to evolve into Walrein. At 410 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.

  • Sealeo's biggest threats include Raikou (Electric), Breloom (Grass), and Machamp (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Rock-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Spheal evolves into Sealeo at level 32. Sealeo evolves into Walrein at level 44. Sealeo is a middle-stage evolution in the Spheal line.

  • Thick Fat is what you want on Sealeo. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Ice Body, Oblivious) work on paper but Thick Fat is what makes Sealeo worth using.

  • Base 45 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Sealeo is a special attacker with base 75 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • Sealeo appears in 15 games, including Ruby & Sapphire, FireRed & LeafGreen, and Emerald.

Available in 15 titles since its debut in Ruby & Sapphire, Sealeo spans 7 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through catching or hatching as a base form in most mainline games.
