Ground moves don't affect Mantine at all — that's the advantage of Water/Flying typing. Swift Swim doubles its Speed in rain. Introduced in Gen 2. Known as the Kite Pokemon.
Sp. Def leads and Attack gets almost nothing. That's Mantine's stat line in a nutshell. 3 stats sit in respectable range, but the spread is brutal. Very hard to catch and yields 2 Sp. Def EVs.
As it majestically swims, it doesn’t care if REMORAID attach to it for scavenging its leftovers.
Swimming freely in open seas, it may fly out of the water and over the waves if it builds up enough speed.
Mantine Weakness
ExcellentType-wise, Mantine takes extra damage from Electric and Rock. Watch out for Electric attacks, those deal 4x damage. Ground moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Water Absorb grants an additional Water immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Mantine's special bulk (base 140 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)
Getting Mantine requires a unique condition, not just grinding levels. The chain starts at Mantyke. Breed this form to get Mantyke eggs (average hatch time). HP grew the most through evolution (+40 over Mantyke), and Mantine peaks at 485 total stats.
How to Evolve
Breed with Mantine to get Mantyke eggs easily using 69 partners from the Water1 egg group. Notable egg moves include Haze, Hydro Pump, Mirror Coat and 7 more.
This is a pure walling set. Leftovers provides passive recovery each turn so Mantine sticks around, and the Bold nature reinforces physical wall. Rest handles sustain while Waterabsorb does work passively.

Hard to wall, honestly. Mantine threatens 10 types beyond its own STAB, with Grass and Psychic standing out. Pair that with Hydro Pump and Surf and switchins need to think twice.

This 2-stage line starts with Mantyke, a baby that doesn't spawn wild. Breed Mantine at the nursery to hatch one, then level through the stages to reach Mantine.

Swift Swim changes the entire equation for Mantine. The 485 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier.
Mantine's biggest threats include Jolteon (Electric) and Aerodactyl (Rock), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Jolteon is the most dangerous since Electric moves deal 4x damage. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.
Mantyke evolves into Mantine through a special method. Mantine is the fully evolved form. At 485 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.
Swift Swim is what you want on Mantine. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Water Absorb, Water Veil) work on paper but Swift Swim is what makes Mantine worth using.
Base 70 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Mantine is a special attacker with base 80 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits.
