Most of Machamp's flexibility comes from TMs. Same-type output runs through Submission and Karate Chop, but Normal and Ground and the rest of the TM pool push it from predictable to genuinely threatening.

Machamp Guide

  • In Red & Blue, Machamp works as a wallbreaker with 485 BST behind it. C-Tier on our list: a niche pick in Red & Blue's meta. Earthquake anchors the moveset.

  • In Red & Blue, Machamp's biggest threats include Dodrio (Flying) and Starmie (Psychic), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Machamp is a physical attacker with base 130 Attack. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. At base 55 Speed, it won't be moving first often. Fits the wallbreaker role.

  • For Red & Blue, the core moveset is Earthquake, Body Slam, Submission, and Lowkick. Earthquake leads at 19% usage. Submission provides reliable STAB damage.

  • In Red & Blue, the best way to handle Machamp: Status moves (Toxic, Will-O-Wisp) wear it down. Setup sweepers can use it as a boost opportunity. Special attackers bypass its physical bulk.

Game Availability

Available since Red & Blue, Machamp appears in 21 games spanning 10 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Gigantamax form in Generation 8.
