While most trainers evolve Metang into Metagross immediately, the unevolved form has a niche with Eviolite boosting its defenses. Poison moves can't touch it, which offsets the 4 weaknesses somewhat. Can go either physical or special depending on the set. A competitive option since Gen 3.
Metang's spread favors physical bulk over offense. Defense leads the defensive side, Speed eats the cost. Yields 2 Defense EVs per defeat. Slow 1.25M XP grind to level.
When two Beldum link together, their psychic power is doubled. Their intelligence, however, remains unchanged.
It adores magnetic minerals, so it pursues Nosepass at speeds exceeding 60 mph.
Metang Weakness
GoodMetang's Steel/Psychic typing leaves it vulnerable to Fire, Ground, Ghost, and Dark moves. It shrugs off Poison-type attacks completely. 9 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that.
Metang is the middle stage between Beldum and Metagross. It's a three-stage line with one more evolution to go. For breeding, takes forever to hatch with no compatible partners via one egg group. So far, HP got the biggest boost (+20 from Beldum). The final form adds another 180 stats on top.
How to Evolve
Breed with Metang to get Beldum eggs (with patience) from the Mineral egg group.
Find one free turn for Agility and Metang can run through teams. Jolly nature leans fast physical, Clearbody supports the sweep, and the remaining moves stops anything from walling it cleanly.

Breadth over depth defines this movepool. Metang won't stack one type's damage ceiling, but coverage across 10 types means it always has an effective option. Psychic and Meteor Mash anchor the STAB core.

Metang isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Metagross to unlock its full potential. At 420 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
Watch for Charizard (Fire), Rhydon (Ground), and Misdreavus (Ghost) when using Metang. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Dark-type attackers are also a problem.
Clear Body prevents stats from being lowered by other Pokémon — that's the one you want on Metang. Light Metal is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.
Metang fills the balanced role. It's leaning toward the physical side (base 75 Attack). Base 50 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
