While most trainers evolve Metang into Metagross immediately, the unevolved form has a niche with Eviolite boosting its defenses. Poison moves can't touch it, and only 2 types hit it super-effectively. Can go either physical or special depending on the set.

Metang's spread favors physical bulk over offense. Defense leads the defensive side, Speed eats the cost. Yields 2 Defense EVs per defeat. Slow 1.25M XP grind to level.

When two BELDUM fuse together, METANG is formed. The brains of the BELDUM are joined by a magnetic nervous system. By linking its brains magnetically, this POKéMON generates strong psychokinetic power.

Metang Weakness

Excellent

Metang's Steel/Psychic typing leaves it vulnerable to Fire and Ground moves. It shrugs off Poison-type attacks completely. 8 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. With 60 HP and balanced defenses, Metang can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.

Metang is the middle stage between Beldum and Metagross. It's a three-stage line with one more evolution to go. For breeding, takes forever to hatch with a decent partner pool via one egg group. So far, HP got the biggest boost (+20 from Beldum). The final form adds another 180 stats on top.

Without TMs, Metang's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get coverage across 8 types on top of Psychic and Meteor Mash for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

Metang doesn't appear wild. Catch Beldum instead, it shows up but it's a rare spawn. Evolve it at level 20 to get Metang. The 2-stage line is mapped in the step cards below.

  2. Metang
    Step 2Metang
  • Metang isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Metagross to unlock its full potential. At 420 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • Watch for Charizard (Fire) and Rhydon (Ground) when using Metang. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Beldum evolves into Metang at level 20. Metang evolves into Metagross at level 45. Metang is a middle-stage evolution in the Beldum line.

  • Clear Body prevents stats from being lowered by other Pokémon — that's the one you want on Metang. Light Metal is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • Metang fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 75 Attack. Base 50 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • Metang appears in 16 games, including Ruby & Sapphire, FireRed & LeafGreen, and Emerald.

Metang first appeared in Ruby & Sapphire and has been available in 16 games across 7 generations. Obtainable through catching or hatching as a base form in most titles where it appears.
