Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon keep Sun and Moon's four-island Alola layout but add Mantine Surf checkpoints that connect islands via the waveride minigame. The Battle Tree at Poni Gauntlet's tip fields cross-game champion rematches once the Elite Four loop is cleared.
ULTRA SUN & ULTRA MOON LOCATIONS
Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon's expanded Alola runs in story order from Hau'oli City. Filter by encounter method or type to jump around. Team Rocket's Castle drops out of an Ultra Wormhole into a parallel Alola where Giovanni and the Gen 1 Rocket Executives run the world, complete with their original Pokemon teams.

Special encounters are the one-time, fixed-location Pokemon you won't catch in random wild grass. Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon has 42 total: 42 Legendary (story-locked, once per save).
A postgame mini-game where you ride Solgaleo or Lunala through wormholes to reach Ultra Space. Different colored wormholes lead to different legendary Pokemon from all past generations. The farther you travel and the rarer the wormhole color, the better the legendary waiting inside. Every non-event legendary from Gens 1-7 is available this way.
Several routes got new Pokemon added. The Alola Photo Club locations have different spawns. Ultra Beasts now appear in specific locations after the story instead of only during the post-game quest. Totem Pokemon are mostly the same but some changed types (Totem Marowak replaces Totem Salazzle in one trial). New areas like Ultra Megalopolis were added.
100 stickers are hidden across Alola on walls, signs, and objects. Collecting enough lets you trade them for totem-sized Pokemon at Heahea Beach. At 80 stickers you get Totem Mimikyu. All 100 stickers gets you Totem Kommo-o (Ultra Moon) or Totem Ribombee (Ultra Sun). Stickers are in fixed spots and many are in locations you pass through during the story.
Yes, same as Sun and Moon. Ultra Moon runs 12 hours offset from your system clock. Daytime in real life means nighttime in Ultra Moon. This affects which Pokemon appear (Lycanroc forms, time-locked encounters) and which Totem battles you face. Some exclusive species only appear during one time period.
