Map LocationsRuby&Sapphire
"Hoenn's weather-driven routes and underwater dive spots make Ruby and Sapphire feel different from any earlier Pokemon game. Castform isn't a wild encounter here; it's a gift from the Route 119 Weather Institute scientist after you clear out Team Magma."
RS MAP
Ruby and Sapphire's Hoenn map runs a central spine from Littleroot through Mauville and on to Sootopolis, with offshore markers clustering around Ever Grande's waterway. The original Battle Tower marker on the postgame strip only appears after you've cleared the Pokemon League.
RUBY & SAPPHIRE LOCATIONS
Need a specific encounter? Filter by method or type. Walking the story? The cards start at Littleroot Town and run in order. Hoenn keeps Rayquaza at the top of the Sky Pillar climb and stashes its ghost-type catches at Mt. Pyre's summit overlooking the eastern coast.

SPECIAL ENCOUNTERS
Special encounters are the one-time, fixed-location Pokemon you won't catch in random wild grass. Ruby & Sapphire has 12 total: 8 Legendary (story-locked, once per save) and 4 Static (gift Pokemon and route roadblocks).
Ruby gets Groudon, Mawile, Solrock, Zangoose, Seedot line, and Latios (roaming). Sapphire gets Kyogre, Sableye, Lunatone, Seviper, Lotad line, and Latias (roaming). The route encounters differ for these species but the locations themselves are identical between versions.
Emerald has expanded encounter tables on many routes, a larger Safari Zone, and lets you get both fossils. Ruby and Sapphire lock you to one fossil (Root or Claw, chosen in the desert). Some Pokemon available in Emerald don't appear in RS at all. Weather encounters work the same between all three games.
No internal clock affects encounters. The GBA has a real-time clock for berry growth and Shoal Cave tides, but wild Pokemon tables are the same 24/7. Time-based encounters don't exist in any Gen 3 GBA game (Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, LeafGreen).
Smashing rocks on certain routes and caves triggers wild encounters separate from walking. Geodude and Nosepass are the most common finds. Granite Cave and Victory Road have the most smashable rocks. The encounter tables for Rock Smash are different from walking at the same location, so check both methods.
Ruby & Sapphire has 63 locations with wild Pokemon encounters, featuring 134 unique Pokemon species. The location with the most Pokemon variety is Safari Zone with 19 unique species.
Ruby & Sapphire has 8 legendary encounters: Latias (Lv. 40 at Roaming Hoenn), Latios (Lv. 40 at Roaming Hoenn), Regirock (Lv. 40 at Desert Ruins), Regice (Lv. 40 at Island Cave), Registeel (Lv. 40 at Ancient Tomb), Kyogre (Lv. 45 at Cave of Origin), Groudon (Lv. 45 at Cave of Origin), Rayquaza (Lv. 70 at Sky Pillar).
The top fishing locations in Ruby & Sapphire by Pokemon variety are: Route 128 (5 species), Route 133 (5 species), Ever Grande City (5 species). These locations offer the widest selection of water-type Pokemon through various rod types (Old Rod, Good Rod, Super Rod).
