Map LocationsScarlet&Violet
"In Scarlet and Violet, Paldea ditches fixed encounter tables for a fully traversable open world where wild spawns depend on biome and time of day. The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC opened two more regions afterward: Kitakami's mountain village and Blueberry Academy's terrarium dome."
SV MAP
Paldea's Scarlet and Violet map opens fully traversable from the start, so the marker order on the map tracks how each of the three storylines spreads across the region. Asado Desert in the southwest hosts the Quaking Earth Titan, a Path of Legends boss whose defeat unlocks one of Koraidon and Miraidon's climbing upgrades. Pick any of the three story arcs in any order, and the map reorders its difficulty curve to match your route.
SCARLET & VIOLET LOCATIONS
Scarlet and Violet open at Cabo Poco, with the cards running through Paldea's three storylines in the order most playthroughs hit them. Filter by encounter method or type to skip between areas. The Great Crater of Paldea at the center of the map stays sealed until you clear all three branches, with Paradox Pokemon waiting at the bottom that only appear in one version each.

SPECIAL ENCOUNTERS
Special encounters are the one-time, fixed-location Pokemon you won't catch in random wild grass. Scarlet & Violet has 4 total: 4 Static (gift Pokemon and route roadblocks).
No. Paldea is fully open-world from the start. You can go anywhere in any order, but wild Pokemon levels are fixed per zone. The south areas are level 10-20, central zones are 25-40, and the north and edges hit 45-60. There's no scaling. Walking into a high-level area early means everything will destroy you until your team catches up.
Outbreaks mark locations on the map where a specific species spawns in large groups (30-60 at once). Each outbreak Pokemon rolls independently for shiny status. With a Shiny Charm and enough Pokemon caught in that species' Pokedex entry, odds can drop below 1/1000. Clear 30 and the next wave has boosted rates. Outbreaks rotate daily.
Crystal formations scattered across Paldea hold Tera Raid dens. Difficulty ranges from 1-star (easy) to 7-star (event only). Raid Pokemon have unique Tera Types that differ from their normal typing. High-star raids are the main source of Ability Patches, Tera Shards, and rare TM materials. New dens spawn daily on a rotation.
The Great Crater in the center of Paldea opens after completing all three story paths (Victory Road, Starfall Street, Path of Legends). It's a postgame dungeon with unique Pokemon not found anywhere else in the game. Paradox Pokemon (ancient or future variants depending on your version) only spawn inside the crater. Levels range from 50 to 65.
Yes. Each version has exclusive Pokemon scattered across the same locations. Scarlet gets Larvitar, Stonjourner, Oranguru, and the ancient Paradox species. Violet gets Bagon, Eiscue, Passimian, and the future Paradox species. The Paradox exclusives in Area Zero are the biggest difference since they're entirely separate species pools per version.
Scarlet & Violet has 48 locations with wild Pokemon encounters, featuring 535 unique Pokemon species. The location with the most Pokemon variety is North Province (Area One) with 173 unique species.
