Map LocationsPlatinum
"Platinum thickens Diamond and Pearl's Sinnoh encounter tables and adds the Distortion World detour you reach through Spear Pillar."
PLATINUM MAP
Platinum reuses Sinnoh's surface map but reshuffles wild spawns across nearly every route. The Battle Frontier cluster along the eastern coast becomes Sinnoh's main postgame draw, replacing the more modest setup Diamond and Pearl shipped with.
PLATINUM LOCATIONS
From Twinleaf Town onward, Platinum's 73 cards run in story order. Filter by encounter method or type to jump to specific encounters. Snowpoint Temple stays sealed until you arrive with the Regi trio in your party from Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald to wake Regigigas at the bottom.

SPECIAL ENCOUNTERS
Special encounters are the one-time, fixed-location Pokemon you won't catch in random wild grass. Platinum has 19 total: 14 Legendary (story-locked, once per save) and 5 Static (gift Pokemon and route roadblocks).
Platinum adds the Distortion World (a one-time gravity-puzzle dungeon for catching Giratina), the Battle Frontier on the postgame island, and the Wi-Fi Plaza. Several existing locations like Eterna Forest and Mt. Coronet have expanded encounter tables with Pokemon not available in DP. The Snowpoint Temple interior is also Platinum-exclusive.
Yes. The Sinnoh Dex expanded from 150 in Diamond and Pearl to 210 in Platinum. This means species like Houndour, Absol, Ralts, and Swablu show up on routes before beating the Elite Four. Several locations that only had a handful of species in DP got additional encounters in Platinum.
Same mechanics as Diamond and Pearl. Honey trees take 6 hours and have the same rare/common split. Pokeradar chaining still goes up to 40 for the best shiny odds. The main difference is which Pokemon appear in radar patches. Platinum shuffles some radar-exclusive species to different routes compared to DP.
Victory Road wild Pokemon reach level 44. Route 228 postgame has the strongest wild encounters (up to level 54 in sandstorm). For pre-E4, Victory Road trainers plus the VS Seeker on Route 222-223 are efficient since those trainers carry level 40+ teams and can be rebattled unlimited times after 100 steps.
Platinum has 73 locations with wild Pokemon encounters, featuring 261 unique Pokemon species. The location with the most Pokemon variety is Route 205 with 33 unique species.
Platinum has 14 legendary encounters: Regigigas (Lv. 1 at Snowpoint Temple), Shaymin (Lv. 30 at Flower Paradise), Regirock (Lv. 30 at Route 228), Regice (Lv. 30 at Mt. Coronet), Registeel (Lv. 30 at Iron Island), Giratina (Lv. 47 at Distortion World), Darkrai (Lv. 50 at Newmoon Island), Heatran (Lv. 50 at Stark Mountain), Moltres (Lv. 60 at Roaming Sinnoh), Articuno (Lv. 60 at Roaming Sinnoh), Zapdos (Lv. 60 at Roaming Sinnoh), Dialga (Lv. 70 at Spear Pillar), Palkia (Lv. 70 at Spear Pillar), Arceus (Lv. 80 at Hall of Origin).
The top fishing locations in Platinum by Pokemon variety are: Route 205 (7 species), Route 212 (6 species), Route 230 (6 species). These locations offer the widest selection of water-type Pokemon through various rod types (Old Rod, Good Rod, Super Rod).
