Don't let the raw stats fool you. Volt Absorb heals when hit by Electric moves, and that completely changes the math for Lanturn. Only weak to Grass and Ground. A competitive option since Gen 2. Relies on priority moves or Scarf to keep up.
Lanturn's spread is anchored by HP, with special bulk backing it up. Attack is the clear weak point. Worth 2 HP EVs per KO, and the slow 1.25M XP grind keeps leveling painless.
Lanturn’s light can shine up from great depths. It is nicknamed “The Deep-Sea Star.”
Lanturn Weakness
GoodLanturn's Water/Electric typing leaves it vulnerable to Grass and Ground moves. It resists 5 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. Volt Absorb grants an additional Electric immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. With 125 HP and balanced defenses, Lanturn can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)
Lanturn is the evolved form of Chinchou. Breeding produces Chinchou eggs, and they're average hatch time. Evolving from Chinchou gave Lanturn the biggest boost in HP (+50), bringing the total to 460 stats.
How to Evolve
Breed with Lanturn to get Chinchou eggs easily from the Water2 egg group. Notable egg moves include Agility, Amnesia, Brine and 7 more.
Leftovers and Voltabsorb form the backbone. Lanturn invests a spread EV build EVs to play its defensive wall role properly, and Calm nature pushes Sp. Def higher. Surf handles the heavy lifting on offense. Double STAB rounds it out.
