Dugtrio's built around physical offense. Speed leads the charge, HP pays for it. Tough to catch, worth 2 Speed EVs. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
Its three heads bob separately up and down to loosen the soil nearby, making it easier for it to burrow.
In battle, it digs through the ground and strikes the unsuspecting foe from an unexpected direction.
Dugtrio's Ground/Steel typing leaves it vulnerable to Fire, Water, Fighting, and Ground. It shrugs off Electric and Poison-type attacks completely. 8 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. At base 110 Speed, Dugtrio outspeeds most threats and doesn't need to tank what it can outrun.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Water, Fighting, Ground |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Normal, Flying, Psychic, Bug, Dragon, Steel, Fairy |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Rock |
| 0x (Immune) | Electric, Poison |
Miraidon can KO Dugtrio with Draco Meteor (104-122%). Incineroar threatens a KO with Flare Blitz (210-247%). Greninja's Surf also KOs at 209-245%.

Dugtrio is the evolved form of Diglett. Breeding produces Diglett eggs, and they're average hatch time. Evolving from Diglett gave Dugtrio the biggest boost in Attack (+45), bringing the total to 425 stats. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
One guaranteed turn is all Dugtrio needs. Focus Sash buys it, max Attack and Speed EVs make it count, and Sandforce adds something extra. The goal: deal early damage and deal damage with Earthquake. Normal coverage gives it play beyond just the lead turn.

Moves
Without TMs, Dugtrio's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get Ghost and Dark coverage and more on top of Steel Beam and Earthquake for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

Tutor Moves
You'll want to breed for Ancient Power and Astonish on Dugtrio. These egg moves aren't just nice to have. Combined with STAB from Earthquake and Earth Power, they expand what Dugtrio can actually threaten in practice.
You'll want to breed for Ancient Power and Final Gambit on Dugtrio. These egg moves aren't just nice to have. Combined with STAB from Earthquake and High Horsepower, they expand what Dugtrio can actually threaten in practice.
Dugtrio's options are limited here. You've got Earthquake and Dig for STAB damage, but there isn't much beyond Ground and Steel hitting power. TMs help fill gaps, though the kit stays tight.

It depends on your team. Dugtrio at 425 BST isn't a powerhouse, but the Ground/Steel coverage might be exactly what you're missing.
Dugtrio has a 425 base stat total and ranks as B-Tier: a solid choice for the right team. It works best as a sweeper. Base 110 Speed is where it shines.
Sand Veil increases evasion to 1.25× during a sandstorm. That's the one you want on Dugtrio. Sand Force is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Tangling Hair works too if your team needs something different.
Dugtrio first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 20 games across 10 generations. It later gained an Alolan form in Generation 7, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
