Dugtrio's Ground typing gives it an immunity to Electric. Only 3 weaknesses on top of that — it has plenty of safe switch-in opportunities. A competitive option since Gen 1. Comfortably outruns most offensive threats.
Dugtrio's all-in on Speed at the expense of HP. The physical lean is obvious from the bars. Yields 2 Speed EVs and follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
Because the triplets originally split from one body, they think exactly alike. They work cooperatively to burrow endlessly through the ground.
Dugtrio Weakness
AvgDugtrio's Ground typing leaves it vulnerable to Water, Grass, and Ice moves. It shrugs off Electric-type attacks completely. At base 120 Speed, Dugtrio outspeeds most threats and doesn't need to tank what it can outrun.
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
Dugtrio is the evolved form of Diglett. Breeding produces Diglett eggs, and they're average hatch time. Evolving from Diglett gave Dugtrio the biggest boost in Attack (+45), bringing the total to 425 stats.
How to Evolve
Breed with Dugtrio to get Diglett eggs easily using 102 partners from the Ground egg group. Notable egg moves include Ancient Power, Beat Up, Feint Attack and 4 more.
You commit to a move every time Dugtrio comes in. Choice Band gives raw power at the cost of move flexibility, and Arenatrap adds to that. Max Attack and Speed EVs make sure the locked move actually hurts. The remaining moves covers the rest.

Dugtrio isn't available in the wild in Emerald. Start by transferring Diglett from Red, Yellow, or Let's Go Pikachu. The evolution path from Diglett to Dugtrio is covered in the steps below.
Dugtrio has a 425 base stat total and ranks as A-Tier — a strong competitive pick. It works best as a sweeper. Base 120 Speed is where it shines.
Sand Veil increases evasion to 1.25× during a sandstorm — that's the one you want on Dugtrio. Sand Force is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Arena Trap works too if your team needs something different.
Dugtrio fills the sweeper role. It's a physical attacker with base 100 Attack. Base 120 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's fragile — can't afford to take many hits.
Dugtrio appears in 20 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.
Dugtrio first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 20 games across 9 generations. It later gained an Alolan form in Generation 7, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
