Dragon moves don't affect Whimsicott at all — that's the advantage of Grass/Fairy typing. Prankster gives priority to its status moves. Known as the Windveiled Pokemon. Can go either physical or special depending on the set.
Speed and Defense carry most of Whimsicott's stat budget. HP's the obvious dump stat. Moderately hard to find and yields 2 Speed EVs. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
It scatters cotton all over the place as a prank. If it gets wet, it’ll become too heavy to move and have no choice but to answer for its mischief.
As long as this Pokémon bathes in sunlight, its cotton keeps growing. If too much cotton fluff builds up, Whimsicott tears it off and scatters it.
Whimsicott Weakness
VulnerableWhimsicott's Grass/Fairy typing leaves it vulnerable to Poison, Fire, Ice, Flying, and Steel moves. Poison hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Dragon-type attacks completely. With 6 resistances, the defensive profile is strong.
Getting Whimsicott requires an evolution item, not just grinding levels. The chain starts at Cottonee. Breed this form to get Cottonee eggs (average hatch time). Speed grew the most through evolution (+50 over Cottonee), and Whimsicott peaks at 480 total stats.

max HP and Defense EVs and Bold nature turn Whimsicott into a wall that doesn't fold easily. Covert Cloak brings secondary effect immunity for the long game, and the moveset handles sustain. Prankster fills in the gaps.

Leveling does the heavy lifting. Whimsicott picks up Energy Ball and Hurricane along the way, building toward a complete offensive set. TMs add Normal and Flying coverage and more, but the foundation's already strong by then.

Prankster changes the entire equation for Whimsicott. The 480 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked A-Tier as a pivot.
Watch for Roserade (Poison), Blaziken (Fire), and Weavile (Ice) when using Whimsicott. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Roserade is the most dangerous since Poison moves deal 4x damage. Flying and Steel-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.
Cottonee evolves into Whimsicott using a Sun Stone. Whimsicott is the fully evolved form. At 480 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.
Prankster is what you want on Whimsicott. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Infiltrator, Chlorophyll) work on paper but Prankster is what makes Whimsicott worth using.
Base 116 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. On offense, Whimsicott is a special attacker with base 77 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a pivot.
