Normal, Fighting, and Poison moves don't affect Gholdengo at all — that's the advantage of Steel/Ghost typing. It needs some investment to avoid getting outsped. Its damage comes from the special side. Introduced in Gen 9.

Sp. Atk and Defense carry most of Gholdengo's stat budget. Attack's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 2 Sp. Atk EVs. Follows a slow 1.25M XP grind.

Recommended Teammates

TMs carry this one. Gholdengo learns Steel Beam and Make It Rain naturally for STAB, but the offensive range comes almost entirely from technical machines. Normal and Rock and beyond give it real matchup play.

  2. Gholdengo
    Step 2Gholdengo
  • We rate Gholdengo S-Tier — one of the best competitive options available. At 550 BST, it fits the wallbreaker role. Base 133 Sp. Atk stands out.

  • Gholdengo's biggest threats include Volcarona (Fire), Landorus (Ground), and Gengar (Ghost), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Dark-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Gimmighoul evolves into Gholdengo through a special method. Gholdengo is the fully evolved form. At 550 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.

  • Good As Gold is the go-to ability for Gholdengo. It gives immunity to status moves. It's Gholdengo's only ability.

  • Base 84 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Gholdengo is a special attacker with base 133 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a wallbreaker.

  • Gholdengo can be found in Legends: Z-A and Scarlet & Violet.

Gholdengo joined the series in Scarlet & Violet and has been available in 2 titles so far. With 1 generation of appearances, it's established itself despite the later start.
