Victreebel Best Moveset
AbilityChlorophyll under sun doubles the 70 base Speed, and Held ItemLife Orb with NatureModest pushes 100 Sp. Atk into genuinely threatening range. Grass and Poison TermStab covers Water, Ground, and Fairy super-effectively. MoveWeather Ball becomes Fire-type under sun for Steel coverage. The moveset thrives in sun but folds without it.
Grass/Poison faced the same issues as Venusaur in Gen I (Red & Blue). Psychic-types crushed it, and the typing offered little defensive value.
Utility Moveset
- Razor Leaf
- Wrap
- Sleep Powder
- Stun Spore
Recommended Teammates
Swords Dance plus Sleep Powder was the strategy in Gen II (Gold & Silver). Put something to sleep, boost up, and sweep. If they woke up, just Sleep Powder again.

Chlorophyll in sun made it fast and dangerous. Swords Dance into physical Grass coverage was a legitimate sweep threat in Gen III (Ruby & Sapphire).
Physical Attacker Moveset
- Sludge Bomb
- Solar Beam
- Sunny Day
- Sleep Powder
Recommended Teammates
Venusaur did the Chlorophyll sweeper job better with superior stats in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl). Victreebel was always the budget option.
Special Sweeper Moveset
- Sleep Powder
- Weather Ball
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
Recommended Teammates
Even with Drought Ninetales powering Chlorophyll in Gen V (Black & White), Venusaur was the vastly preferred sun sweeper. Victreebel couldn't compete.
Physical Setup Sweeper Moveset
- Sludge Bomb
- Leaf Blade
- Clear Smog
- Swords Dance
Recommended Teammates
Weather nerf hit all sun-dependent Pokemon in Gen VI (X & Y). Five-turn Drought wasn't enough time for Victreebel to set up and sweep.
Special Setup Sweeper Moveset
- Weather Ball
- Sludge Bomb
- Growth
- Giga Drain
Recommended Teammates
Fell further in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). No new tools to differentiate itself from the other Grass/Poison Pokemon above it.
Special Sweeper Moveset
- Sludge Bomb
- Weather Ball
- Solar Beam
- Sleep Powder
Recommended Teammates
Returned in Gen IX (Scarlet & Violet) but irrelevant. The modern format was too fast and too powerful for what Victreebel offered.
Special Sweeper Moveset
- Weather Ball
- Poison Jab
- Sludge Wave
- Knock Off
Recommended Teammates
Victreebel Weakness
Victreebel's Grass/Poison typing leaves it vulnerable to Fire, Ice, Flying, and Psychic. The Grass/Poison typing picks up 5 resistances to work with.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Ice, Flying, Psychic |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Water, Electric, Fighting, Fairy |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass |

Base Stats
Everything pushes toward mixed damage here. Victreebel's Attack does the work, Defense pays the price. But you're still getting 3 Attack EVs per KO. Tough to catch, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
In its mouth, it pools a fragrant nectar-like fluid. The fluid is really an acid that dissolves anything.
Victreebel Guide
Victreebel looks average on paper at 490 BST. But Chlorophyll is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. C-Tier setup sweeper on our tier list.
Watch for Arcanine (Fire), Lapras (Ice), and Aerodactyl (Flying) when using Victreebel. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Psychic-type attackers are also a problem.
Victreebel gets Chlorophyll and Gluttony. But Chlorophyll is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.
Victreebel is a mixed attacker with base 105 Attack and 100 Sp. Atk. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 70 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. Fits the setup sweeper role.
Run Weatherball, Poisonjab, Sludgewave, and Knock Off on Victreebel. Weatherball is the most common pick at 0% usage. This set covers the setup sweeper role with a mix of damage and utility.
