Weepinbell sits in the middle of its evolution line — stronger than Bellsprout but not yet at full power. Most trainers push through to Victreebel as fast as possible. Flexible enough to run physical or special sets. An original Gen 1 pick.

The stat budget goes to damage. Attack and Sp. Atk carry the offense, Sp. Def doesn't even come close. A Flycatcher Pokemon on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve, worth 0 HP EVs per KO.

Leveling does the heavy lifting. Weepinbell picks up Sludge Bomb and Solar Beam along the way, building toward a complete offensive set. TMs add Normal coverage, but the foundation's already strong by then.

or evolve from Bellsprout (Step 1)
  • Weepinbell is meant to evolve into Victreebel. At 390 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.

  • Weepinbell's biggest threats include Charizard (Fire), Cloyster (Ice), and Dodrio (Flying), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Psychic-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Bellsprout evolves into Weepinbell at level 21. Weepinbell evolves into Victreebel using a Leaf Stone. Weepinbell is a middle-stage evolution in the Bellsprout line.

  • Chlorophyll is what you want on Weepinbell. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Gluttony) work on paper but Chlorophyll is what makes Weepinbell worth using.

  • At base 55 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Weepinbell is a mixed attacker — base 90 Attack and 85 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits.

  • Weepinbell appears in 20 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.

One of the original 151, Weepinbell has appeared in 20 games — nearly every mainline game. From Red & Blue through the latest titles, it's rarely been left out of a regional Pokedex.
