Jumpluff's Grass/Flying typing gives it an immunity to Ground. The 5 weaknesses are the tradeoff, but that immunity creates real opportunities. Known as the Cottonweed Pokemon. Can go either physical or special depending on the set.

Jumpluff's spread isn't flashy. Speed leads, Attack trails, 2 stats clear the bar. Tough to catch and worth 3 Speed EVs, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.

Jumpluff Weakness

Vulnerable

Ice, Fire, Poison, Flying, and Rock-type moves hit Jumpluff for super-effective damage. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Ground-type moves can't touch it at all. Jumpluff's special bulk (base 95 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

You're catching Hoppip first, not Jumpluff. Hoppip appears at solid rates in the encounters below. The step cards map the full 3-stage chain with evolution methods between each stage.

How to Obtain Jumpluff in Gold & Silver

To get Jumpluff, start by catching Hoppip through walking encounters at Lv. 6-26. The chain covers 2 catchable stages before reaching the final form.

  3. Jumpluff
    Step 3Jumpluff
  • Don't let Jumpluff's 460 base stat total fool you. Chlorophyll is what makes it tick — it punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier as a pivot.

  • Watch for Cloyster (Ice), Arcanine (Fire), and Nidoking (Poison) when using Jumpluff. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Cloyster is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Flying and Rock-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • Skiploom evolves into Jumpluff at level 27. Jumpluff is the final evolution in a 3-stage line starting from Hoppip. It sits at 460 BST in its evolved form.

  • Jumpluff fills the pivot role. It's leaning toward the physical side (base 55 Attack). Base 110 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • Jumpluff appears in 16 games, including Gold & Silver, Crystal, and Ruby & Sapphire.

Jumpluff first appeared in Gold & Silver and has been available in 16 games across 8 generations. Obtainable through wild encounters in most titles where it appears.
