Best FromSoftware Games Tier List
No two of the best FromSoftware games ask the same thing of you. Elden Ring hands you a vast open world, Sekiro builds its fights around deflection timing, with prosthetic tools and skills to back it up, and Armored Core VI swaps the knight for a mech you rebuild between missions. Elden Ring and Sekiro both reach S, while the mech game sits in B.

Board breakdown
Elden Ring comes first among FromSoftware games, and it is the one to pick if you have never finished a Souls game. The other two S picks each change the rhythm: Bloodborne trades shield defense for gun parries and aggressive attacks, so it rewards pressing forward, and Sekiro drops character builds so that clean sword deflections carry you past the hardest walls.
An open world wrapped around the studio's hardest fights means a boss that stops you can wait while you explore somewhere else, which makes this the gentlest way into FromSoftware. The Tarnished Edition brought it to Switch 2 in August 2026.
- Yharnam trades shield defense for gun parries and aggressive attacks, so every fight rewards pressing forward instead of turtling. It has stayed a PlayStation exclusive, so plan on Sony hardware to play it.
- Set in Japan, Sekiro strips out character builds and asks you to learn each enemy's rhythm through sword deflections. Spare skill points can buy extra Attack Power later on, but clean deflections are what get you past a wall, so expect the purest test of skill on this board.
Commit to the Souls games for the longest run, but play Dark Souls before Dark Souls III, which is written as a direct follow-up to the first game, and pick up Demon's Souls through Bluepoint's 2020 PS5 remake. Nightreign, the other Elden Ring game, is a co-op spin-off rather than a sequel: it supports solo runs, pairs and teams of three, and it is at its best with one or two friends. Armored Core is the outlier: start with Armored Core VI, then try Armored Core 2 to see the mission-based roots it went back to.

Hidetaka Miyazaki directed every game in S and A, so his name is the surest signal on this board. The best games led by other directors share B, and both suit a particular player: Masaru Yamamura's Armored Core VI is for anyone who loves swapping mech parts and weapons between missions, while Dark Souls II, directed by Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura, hands out gear and levels easily enough to be the gentlest Dark Souls. Junya Ishizaki's Nightreign follows in C.

Bloodborne and Demon's Souls are the reason a PlayStation is the only system that plays the whole top of this board: neither ever reached Xbox or PC. Nintendo players get just two FromSoftware games here, Elden Ring through its Switch 2 Tarnished Edition from August 2026 and the 2018 Dark Souls remaster on Switch. Otogi 2 runs the other way, an Xbox exclusive that still plays on Xbox One and Series X|S through backward compatibility.
