Is Swampert Good in Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Playthrough?

Water/Ground with only one weakness and massive bulk. Swampert handles Flannery, Wattson, and most of Steven's Steel-heavy team. Mega Swampert adds AbilitySwift Swim for doubled Speed in rain, turning the bulkiest starter into a fast attacker. The Mega Stone is available during the story. The backbone of most ORAS teams.

Moves List

Most of Swampert's flexibility comes from TMs. Same-type output runs through Hydro Cannon and Hydro Pump, but Fighting and Normal and the rest of the TM pool push it from predictable to genuinely threatening.

Pokedex Entry

Swampert is very strong. It has enough power to easily drag a boulder weighing more than a ton. This Pokémon also has powerful vision that lets it see even in murky water.

Swampert predicts storms by sensing subtle differences in the sounds of waves and tidal winds with its fins. If a storm is approaching, it piles up boulders to protect itself.

Swampert Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Guide

  • In the Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire meta, Swampert already has 635 BST going for it, and Swift Swim pushes the competitive value even higher. B-Tier wallbreaker on our tier list. Earthquake with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • In Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, yes. Mega Swampert is the evolved form, sitting at 735 BST. Big power spike over base Swampert (635). Equip the Mega Stone and it transforms in battle.

  • In Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, Swampert's biggest threats include Breloom (Grass), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Breloom is the most dangerous since Grass moves deal 4x damage. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. Swampert has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.

  • Swampert gets Swift Swim. But Swift Swim is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that. On wall sets, Swift Swim pairs with Swampert's base 110 Defense to absorb physical hits on the switch.

  • Swampert is a mixed attacker with base 150 Attack and 95 Sp. Atk. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 70 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. Fits the wallbreaker role.

Game Availability

Available since Ruby & Sapphire, Swampert appears in 16 games spanning 8 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Mega form in Generation 6.
