Scizor Best Moveset
Bug/Steel at 130 Attack with AbilityTechnician boosting MoveBullet Punch priority by 50%. Held ItemChoice Band locks into one move at massive power. NatureAdamant pushes the physical Bug and Steel TermStab beyond what most answers can absorb. Tera Steel amplifies Bullet Punch into priority that threatens even resistant targets. A-Tier through raw priority damage.
Bug/Steel was an amazing defensive typing in Gen II (Gold & Silver). Swords Dance plus Baton Pass let Scizor boost and pass, or stay in and sweep.
Utility Moveset
- Swords Dance
- Baton Pass
- Agility
- Hidden Power Bug

Great typing but shallow offensive movepool in Gen III (Ruby & Sapphire). Swords Dance and Baton Pass kept it relevant despite lacking strong STAB moves.

- Hidden Power Rock

Technician plus Bullet Punch changed everything in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl). Priority Steel STAB at effectively 90 power. Scizor could revenge kill almost anything in the game.

Mega Scizor pushed the formula even further in Gen VI (X & Y). Base Scizor also stayed strong. One of the most reliable competitive Pokemon across any format.
Physical Wallbreaker Moveset
- Bullet Punch

Dropped in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). Fire-types and Z-Moves punished Scizor's 4x Fire weakness harder than ever before.

- Bullet Punch
- U Turn
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off

Same Technician Bullet Punch formula in Gen VIII (Sword & Shield). It never stopped working, but the format's power level made it less dominant.
Physical Tank Moveset
- Bullet Punch
- Knock Off
- Swords Dance
- Roost
Recommended Teammates
Consistent across eight gens in Gen IX (Scarlet & Violet). Bug/Steel, Technician, Bullet Punch. A formula that stayed relevant generation after generation.

- Knock Off
- U Turn
- Close Combat

Scizor Weakness
Scizor is weak to Fire. Watch out for Fire attacks, those deal 4x damage. On the flip side, it's immune to Poison-type moves entirely. It resists 8 types, so it can switch into a lot of moves safely. Scizor's physical bulk (base 140 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Fire |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Normal, Ice, Psychic, Bug, Dragon, Steel, Fairy |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass |
| 0x (Immune) | Poison |

Base Stats
The stat bars tell the story: Attack carries everything and Sp. Atk's dead weight. But this Pincer Pokemon still yields 2 Attack EVs per fight on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
It has a steel-hard body. It intimidates foes by upraising its eye-patterned pincers.
Scizor Guide
Scizor already has 600 BST going for it, and Technician pushes the competitive value even higher. A-Tier wallbreaker on our tier list.
Yes. Mega Scizor is the evolved form, sitting at 700 BST. Big power spike over base Scizor (600). Equip the Mega Stone and it transforms in battle.
Scizor's biggest threats include Charizard (Fire), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Charizard is the most dangerous since Fire moves deal 4x damage. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. Scizor has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.
Scizor is obtained by trade-evolving Scyther. Catch or evolve a Scyther first, then trade. Trade needs a Game Boy Advance link cable and a second GBA running another Gen 3 game (FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald). Trade Scyther to a friend, then have them trade it back. The 2026 Switch re-release supports the same trade through local wireless on the Pokemon Center 2F Wireless Club, with no cables required. The Metal Coat must be held during the trade. Bring one over from a sibling Gen 3 game if needed.
Scizor gets Technician. But Technician is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that. On wall sets, Technician pairs with Scizor's base 140 Defense to absorb physical hits on the switch.
Game Availability
Available since Gold & Silver, Scizor appears in 19 games spanning 9 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Mega form in Generation 6.
