How to Get Shiny Quagsire in X & Y
Quagsire ambles through the grass on Route 14, an ideal Poke Radar spot where a long unbroken chain lifts the odds to 1 in 100. Compare Shiny Quagsire odds across every game
X & Y Shiny Quagsire Calculator
4 MethodsThe best route is PokeRadar Chain at full boosts, about 1 in 100 on each try. Tune it below.
PokeRadar Chain: Chain shaking-grass patches without breaking the combo. The rate peaks at a chain of 40.
Friend Safari: Friend Safari slots roll at a fixed boosted rate near 1 in 512. The Shiny Charm does not raise it further.
Masuda Method: Breed with a parent from a different-language game. Works on any breedable line.
Full Odds: Walk through grass, surf, or fish. Every encounter is its own independent shiny roll.
How many you have done, or plan to do.
| Chance | Encounters |
|---|---|
| 10%lucky few | 11 |
| 25%one in four | 29 |
| 50%coin flip | 69 |
| 90%very likely | 230 |
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.

Quagsire Weakness
Quagsire's Water/Ground typing leaves it vulnerable to Grass. Grass hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Electric-type attacks completely. It resists 4 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. Water Absorb grants an additional Water immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. With 95 HP and balanced defenses, Quagsire can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Grass |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Poison, Rock, Steel |
| 0x (Immune) | Electric |

Quagsire X & Y Guide
For X & Y, it depends on your team. Quagsire rates C-Tier. Not a powerhouse, but the Water/Ground coverage might be exactly what you're missing.
In X & Y, Quagsire's hidden ability is Unaware. Ignores other Pokémon's stat modifiers for damage and accuracy calculation. Better than the standard options for competitive play.
In X & Y, use Quagsire as a trick room. Splits damage between physical and special. It's slow, so Trick Room or priority moves are key. Scald is the primary attack.
For X & Y, run Relaxed on Quagsire. +Defense is what matters, and the -Speed cut doesn't hurt this set. Fits the trick room role.
