Pokémon X & Y Version Exclusives
X and Y each lock 20 Pokémon to one version, and 15 on each side can be caught or evolved before the League. The rest wait for the post-game: two fossil lines per version from Glittering Cave, plus Slurpuff in X or Aromatisse in Y, which only evolve by trade. The Mega Stones split too, and four of them turn up only in the version that lacks their Pokémon.
Every exclusive and where to catch it
Each row sets an X exclusive beside its usual Y counterpart. Every stage lists where you get it, marks the Terminus Cave hordes, and shows the first badge the game needs before you can.
When each version’s exclusives show up
The first badge each Pokémon needs: the badge that opens the road, or the one before the rod or the place that holds it. Exclusive lines before the League: X: 9, Y: 9.
Exclusives against every boss
For each battle, these are the exclusives you can have by then that hit at least half the boss’s team super effectively with one of their own types. Level and stone evolutions count up to the boss’s highest level, trade evolutions don’t, and Levitate is factored in.
Counts use each exclusive’s own types, not its full moveset. The battle pages have the movesets.
How to Trade Between X and Y
Pick your version to see only the Pokémon you need to trade for. Until then, both lists show.
How to get Y exclusives in X
How to get X exclusives in Y
- Both players need: a Nintendo 3DS each, with wireless communication turned on
- Where: the PSS (Player Search System) on the touch screen: tap the other player, then pick Trade
- Connect with: local wireless only. Online PSS trades, the GTS and Wonder Trade ended with the Nintendo 3DS online services on April 8, 2024
No one to trade with? After the League, the Friend Safari in Kiloude City holds Pinsir, Heracross, Throh, Sawk and several other exclusives in both versions, but it needs other people registered on your 3DS friend list before it has anything to offer.

These six only appear once your Mega Ring is upgraded after the League (a Battle Maison win, a battle with your rival, then Professor Sycamore at the Anistar City sundial), and only from 8 PM to 9 PM. Tyranitarite, Aggronite, Houndoominite and Manectite sit in the version without their Pokémon, so one side has to trade the stone or the Pokémon.
Cyllage City gift
- Whipped DreamFrom the man in the south-east house
- SachetFrom the man in the south-east house
Each version’s gift is the sweet its own exclusive needs: a Swirlix traded holding a Whipped Dream becomes Slurpuff, a Spritzee traded holding a Sachet becomes Aromatisse. Route 12 has both sweets in both versions.

Wild slots that change with the version
None of these are exclusives. Clamperl is on Route 12 in both versions and both Deep Sea items are in Azure Bay, so either side can evolve Huntail or Gorebyss; Weedle and Caterpie are wild in both; and Zangoose and Seviper both show up in Route 8 hordes in both versions, only the single walking slot changes.
