BRAVE NATURE CALCULATOR

Natures weren't part of the series until Generation III (Ruby & Sapphire), so Gold & Silver doesn't have them. Every stat is calculated from base stats, IVs (called DVs back then), and Stat Experience alone. If you're looking for the Brave nature's stat effect, switch the game filter above to any Gen III or later title. That said, the concept still helps with planning teams for remakes like FireRed & LeafGreen or HeartGold & SoulSilver, where natures do apply.

BEST BRAVE NATURE POKEMON

Brave cranks Attack up 10% but lowers Speed. That Speed penalty sounds bad until you realize Trick Room flips the turn order. In Gold & Silver, You'll see it on Steelix, Snubbull, Forretress among others. There's no way to set natures in Gold & Silver. You'll lock in Brave when catching or breeding in Ruby/Sapphire or later.

Brave raises Attack by 10% and lowers Speed by 10%. Trick Room physical attackers that benefit from moving last. 20 Pokemon competitively run this nature.

  • Pokemon that need Attack more than Attack
  • Builds where -Speed is too costly
How to Get
SynchronizeLead with a Brave Pokemon that has the Synchronize ability. Wild Pokemon will match its nature. (Gen 3+)
BreedingGive the parent with Brave nature an Everstone. The offspring will inherit it. (100% since Gen 5)
Nature MintUse a Brave Mint to change stat effects to Brave. The original nature name stays but stats change. (Gen 8+)

BRAVE FAQs

What does the Brave nature do in Pokemon?
Brave gives your Pokemon 10% more Attack at the cost of Speed. That tradeoff works best when the lowered stat isn't part of your moveset. Pokemon with Brave nature prefer Spicy flavor and dislike Sweet.
What are the best Brave nature Pokemon?
Competitively, Steelix, Snubbull, Forretress, and Porygon run Brave most often. The +Attack boost complements their role, and the -Speed penalty barely affects their game plan.
Is Brave a good nature for competitive Pokemon?
For the right Pokemon, Brave is one of the best natures you can pick. The -Speed drop actually helps under Trick Room, where slower Pokemon move first. Just don't slap it on something that uses Speed-based moves.
How do I get a Brave nature Pokemon?
Breeding with an Everstone is the most reliable approach since Gen 5. The parent holding it passes its nature to every offspring. Synchronize works for wild catches. And if you already have the Pokemon, a Brave Mint from the Battle Tower changes the stat effects to Brave.
Should I use Brave or Adamant?
Short answer: Brave for Trick Room power, Adamant for standard power. There's no universal best. Check your Pokemon's base stats and common threats in the format you're playing to decide which tradeoff is better.
