This Pokémon overcame its sorrow to evolve a sturdy new body. Marowak faces its opponents bravely, using a bone as a weapon.

Water, Ground, Rock, Ghost, and Dark moves hit Marowak for super-effective damage. The upside? Normal and Fighting-type moves can't touch it at all. 7 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. Lightning Rod grants an additional Electric immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Marowak's physical bulk (base 110 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Without TMs, Marowak's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get coverage across 9 types on top of Flare Blitz and Fire Blast for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

  2. Marowak
    Step 2Marowak
  • In Sword & Shield, watch for Starmie (Water), Golem (Ground), and Aerodactyl (Rock) when using Marowak. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Ghost and Dark-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • In Sword & Shield, Cubone evolves into Marowak at level 28. Marowak is the final evolution in a 3-stage line starting from Cubone. It sits at 425 BST in its evolved form.

  • For Sword & Shield, it depends on your team. Marowak at 425 BST isn't a powerhouse, but the Fire/Ghost coverage might be exactly what you're missing.

  • In Sword & Shield, Don't let Marowak's 425 base stat total fool you. Lightning Rod is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier. Stone Edge with Thickclub is the standard set.

  • In Sword & Shield, Run Lightning Rod on Marowak. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Marowak also gets Cursed Body and Rock Head, but they don't compare.

Marowak first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 20 games across 10 generations. It later gained an Alolan form in Generation 7, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
