Marowak's Ground typing gives it an immunity to Electric. Only 3 weaknesses on top of that — it has plenty of safe switch-in opportunities. The stat spread favors raw physical power. A competitive option since Gen 1.
Marowak's spread favors physical bulk over offense. Defense leads the defensive side, Speed eats the cost. Yields 2 Defense EVs per defeat. Medium-fast 1M XP curve to level.
The bone it holds is its key weapon. It throws the bone skillfully like a boomerang to KO targets.
Marowak Weakness
AvgWater, Grass, and Ice-type moves hit Marowak for super-effective damage. The upside? Electric-type moves can't touch it at all. Marowak's physical bulk (base 110 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split
You get Marowak from Cubone at level 28. This Ground type hits 425 total but remains in the Undiscovered group. Evolving from Cubone gave Marowak the biggest boost in Attack (+30), bringing the total to 425 stats.
How to Evolve
The recommended build leans into Marowak's strengths as an attacker. An item provides extra utility, and flexible EVs EVs back that up. An ability rounds out the package.

Without TMs, Marowak's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get Normal and Ice coverage and more on top of Earthquake and Dig for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

Don't let Marowak's 425 base stat total fool you. Lightning Rod is what makes it tick — it punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier.
Marowak fills the balanced role. It's a mixed attacker — base 80 Attack and 50 Sp. Atk. Base 45 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
