Slow is good when Trick Room is up, and Cofagrigus is about as slow as they come. Ghost typing gives it a defined role on the team. Normal and Fighting moves can't touch it, and only 2 types hit it super-effectively.

The stat bars tell the story: Defense carries everything and Speed's dead weight. But this Coffin Pokemon still yields 2 Defense EVs per fight on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

This Pokémon has a body of sparkling gold. People say it no longer remembers that it was once human.

Sword

There are many depictions of Cofagrigus decorating ancient tombs. They’re symbols of the wealth that kings of bygone eras had.

Shield

Cofagrigus Weakness

Excellent

Cofagrigus's Ghost typing leaves it vulnerable to Ghost and Dark moves. It shrugs off Normal and Fighting-type attacks completely. Cofagrigus's physical bulk (base 145 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Mental Herb and Mummy form the backbone. Cofagrigus invests max HP and Defense EVs to play its setup attacker role properly, and Relaxed nature pushes Defense higher. Trickroom handles the heavy lifting on offense. The remaining moves rounds it out.

The level-up pool is slim, so TMs matter here. Cofagrigus's Dark and Fighting coverage and more all comes from technical machines, built on top of Poltergeist and Phantom Force for same-type damage. Energy Ball and Giga Impact are the payoff moves.

No wild encounters for Cofagrigus. The 2-stage line runs through Yamask, which you can catch at solid rates from the locations below. Evolve at level 34 once you've got the levels.

  2. Cofagrigus
    Step 2Cofagrigus
  • Cofagrigus works as a trick room with 483 BST behind it. C-Tier on our list — a situational pick that fills a niche. That 145 base Defense does the heavy lifting.

  • Watch for Chandelure (Ghost) and Hydreigon (Dark) when using Cofagrigus. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. At base 30 Speed, Cofagrigus won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Yamask evolves into Cofagrigus at level 34. Cofagrigus is the final evolution in a 3-stage line starting from Yamask. At 483 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.

  • Mummy changes attacking Pokémon's abilities to Mummy on contact — that's the one you want on Cofagrigus. It's the only ability Cofagrigus has.

  • Cofagrigus is leaning toward the special side (base 95 Sp. Atk). Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 30 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the trick room role.

  • Cofagrigus appears in 8 games, including Black & White, Black 2 & White 2, and X & Y.

Since Black & White, Cofagrigus has been obtainable in 8 games. A Generation 5 debut means a shorter history, but Cofagrigus has appeared steadily across every generation since.
