Polteageist's Ghost typing gives it an immunity to Normal and Fighting. Only 2 weaknesses on top of that — it has plenty of safe switch-in opportunities. The stat spread leans into special offense. One of the newer additions from Gen 8.
Polteageist's spread isn't flashy. Sp. Atk leads, HP trails, 2 stats clear the bar. Moderately hard to find and worth 2 Sp. Atk EVs, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
This species lives in antique teapots. Most pots are forgeries, but on rare occasions, an authentic work is found.
Leaving leftover black tea unattended is asking for this Pokémon to come along and pour itself into it, turning the tea into a new Polteageist.
Polteageist Weakness
ExcellentPolteageist's Ghost typing leaves it vulnerable to Ghost and Dark moves. It shrugs off Normal and Fighting-type attacks completely. Polteageist's special bulk (base 114 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
Polteageist doesn't evolve through normal leveling. You'll need an evolution item to get here from Sinistea's line. Breed this form to get Sinistea eggs (average hatch time). Evolving from Sinistea gave Polteageist the biggest boost in Sp.Atk (+60), bringing the total to 508 stats.
How to Evolve
Breed with Polteageist to get Sinistea eggs using 43 partners from the Indeterminate and Mineral egg groups.
One guaranteed turn is all Polteageist needs. Focus Sash buys it, max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs make it count, and Weakarmor adds something extra. The goal: deal early damage and deal damage with Shellsmash. The remaining moves gives it play beyond just the lead turn.

Without TMs, Polteageist's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get Grass and Dark coverage and more on top of Poltergeist and Phantom Force for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

Can't catch Polteageist directly. Start with Sinistea at decent rates from the locations below, then evolve through a special method. The 2-stage line from Sinistea to Polteageist is where the leveling time goes.
How to Obtain Polteageist in Sword & Shield
Sinistea is your first catch on the way to Polteageist. You'll find walking encounters from Lv. 34-65 across 44 total spots in the chain.

Step 2Polteageist ✓
Polteageist has a 508 base stat total and ranks as B-Tier — a solid choice for the right team. It works best as a wallbreaker. Base 134 Sp. Atk is where it shines.
Watch for Chandelure (Ghost) and Hydreigon (Dark) when using Polteageist. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.
Sinistea evolves into Polteageist using a Cracked Pot. Polteageist is the fully evolved form. At 508 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.
Weak Armor raises Speed and lowers Defense by one stage each upon being hit by a physical move — that's the one you want on Polteageist. Cursed Body is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.
Polteageist fills the wallbreaker role. It's a special attacker with base 134 Sp. Atk. Base 70 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
Polteageist can be found in Scarlet & Violet and Sword & Shield.
Introduced in Sword & Shield, Polteageist has appeared in 2 games across 2 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
