Stats & Training
Sp. Atk and Defense carry most of Magneton's stat budget. HP's the obvious dump stat. Moderately hard to find and yields 2 Sp. Atk stat exp. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
When many MAGNETON gather together, the resulting magnetic storm disrupts radio waves.
Magneton Weakness
Type-wise, Magneton takes extra damage from Ground, Fire, and Fighting. Watch out for Ground attacks, those deal 4x damage. Poison moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. With 12 resistances, the defensive profile is strong. Magneton's physical bulk (base 95 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Ground |
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Fighting |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Normal, Electric, Grass, Ice, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Dark |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Flying, Steel |
| 0x (Immune) | Poison |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
In Crystal, Machamp can KO Magneton with Earthquake (158-186%). Golem threatens a KO with Earthquake (220-259%). Houndoom's Fire Blast also KOs at 144-169%.

Moves
Leveling does the heavy lifting. Magneton picks up Zap Cannon and Hyper Beam along the way, building toward a complete offensive set. TMs add Normal and Rock coverage, but the foundation's already strong by then.

Magneton Guide
Magneton is meant to evolve into Magnezone. At 465 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
Base 70 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Magneton is a mixed attacker with base 60 Attack and 120 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a cannon.
For Crystal, you can run Magneton through the first few routes without issues. 465 BST won't carry you far though. Get it to Magnezone as fast as you can.
Game Availability
One of the original 151, Magneton has appeared in 21 games — nearly every mainline game. From Red & Blue through the latest titles, it's rarely been left out of a regional Pokedex.
