Magneton is technically a pre-evolution of Magnezone, but it holds its own in formats where Eviolite is allowed. Only weak to Ground. It needs some investment to avoid getting outsped. Known as the Magnet Pokemon.
Sp. Atk and Defense carry most of Magneton's stat budget. HP's the obvious dump stat. Moderately hard to find and yields 2 Sp. Atk EVs. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
Formed by several MAGNEMITEs linked together. They frequently appear when sunspots flare up.
Magneton Weakness
AvgType-wise, Magneton takes extra damage from Ground. Few weaknesses and 2 resistances make the typing clean. Magneton's physical bulk (base 95 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split
This Electric-type links Magnemite to Magnezone. Magneton has 465 stats but sits in the Undiscovered egg group. HP has grown the most so far (+25), but there's still another 70 stats to gain in the final evolution.
How to Evolve
Nothing fancy here. Magneton builds around an item for extra utility, a nature nature for the right stat lean, and flexible EVs EVs. An ability does its job quietly.

Recommended Teammates
TMs carry this one. Magneton learns Thunder and Thunderbolt naturally for STAB, but the offensive range comes almost entirely from technical machines. Normal and beyond give it real matchup play.

Magneton is meant to evolve into Magnezone. At 465 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
Magneton's biggest threats include Golem (Ground), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.
Base 70 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Magneton is a special attacker with base 120 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a cannon.
Magneton appears in 21 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.
One of the original 151, Magneton has appeared in 21 games — nearly every mainline game. From Red & Blue through the latest titles, it's rarely been left out of a regional Pokedex.
